Origin:
in the English tradition where wealthy people of the community gave Christmas treats to the carolers on Christmas Eve such as 'figgy puddings' that were very much like modern day Christmas puddings. It is one of the few English traditional carols that makes mention of the New Year celebration. It is often the last song carolers sing to people.
Figgy Pudding with flaming brandy Figgy pudding description: is a pudding resembling something like a white Christmas pudding containing figs. The pudding may be baked, steamed in the oven, boiled or fried. Its possible ancestors include savory puddings such as crustades, fygeye or figge, creme boiled, and sippets. A Christmas traditional dish served during the season and thus might potentially be given to Christmas carolers.
