A rough boy from the streets, "ones what play hooky from school" described in the Pinocchio (1940) Disney film, Lampwick meets Pinocchio in the night when Coachman takes all the disobedient boys to Pleasure Island. Referring to his character, Lampwick is the typical kind of juvenile law breaker, a young offender without morals and who doesn't care about any rules or regulation. He is eager to arrive on Pleasure Island and when he gets to the destination, turns loose and enjoys at maximum the time spent there. Lampwick also proves to be very rude and insolent when he ridicules and insults Jiminy, even though the cricket had only good intentions. Lampwick character is first seen in the film during the trip to Pleasure Island, when he introduces to Pinocchio and starts a conversation with him, so the two boys instantly become buddies. When he talks about Pleasure Island he describes it like the land of milk and honey, where you can do whatever you please without any restrictions: "Boy, that's the place. I can hardly wait!". As soon as they arrive there, Lampwick proves to be very mean and violent starting to punch and harass other kids and impelling Pinocchio to do the same. However, he seems to be nice and friendly towards the wooden puppet, who foolishly accepts him around so being under a very bad influence. After they tear the place apart, they both start to drink beer and smoke cigars while playing pool. Lampwick makes fun of the boy when hearing that Jiminy is his conscience: "What? You mean to tell me you take orders from a grasshopper?" Pinocchio then stands up for Lampwick calling him his best friend, so Jiminy turns his back on them intending to leave the island. Later in the film, during the same episode happening at the pool hall Lampwick begins to transform into a donkey, first of all getting donkey ears, a tail and then his entire head changes completely. The one who first sees the difference is Pinocchio, who thinks he hallucinates and instantly stops drinking and smoking. Lampwick figures out only when he makes a sound like "hee-haw" instead of laughing and after watching himself in the mirror is frightened and desperately calls for help: "Somebody, help! Please, you gotta help me. Mama!" Unfortunately there was nothing anyone could do so the boy's condition got worse and transformation was complete. Jiminy discovered what was really happening with the children on Pleasure Island and was on his way back to alert Pinocchio, sadly he arrived too late for saving Lampwick. We don't really know for sure what happened afterwards with the poor naughty boy, but probably was sold by Coachman.
