One Toy Soldier is a perfect song for the winter period as they are a vintage Christmas present and I suppose the line; "Happy Christmas Day to you." can only get you in the Christmas spirit and the beat of the song echoes that of a marching soldier perfectly. (FemaleFirst, Nov. 2008)
The most interesting track on the album is One Toy Soldier, Enya's very own Little Drummer Boy (but without the pa rum pum pum pum, I might add). The toy soldier plays his drum to keep the time, but the drum is suddenly broken. Then Someone has come to mend his drum/Now his heart lights up with pride. It is a symbol of a child's imagination. The toy soldier is alive, and has feelings. The classical Christmas bells in the end are beautiful together with the Happy Christmas Day to you! (New Age Music, Nov. 2008)
Other songs maintain a much steadier rhythm than Enya usually delivers as well, particularly for an album themed to such a dark, slowly-paced time of year. "One Toy Soldier" sets up a beat almost as firm as that found in the "Little Drummer Boy" carol, while still remaining uniquely Enya-like... (The Badger-Herald, Nov. 2008)
Her 2008 creation, And Winter Came, has been released in time for the coming holiday season. While it contains Christmas songs, it can more appropriately be called a seasonal release as many of the songs range beyond just one specific day. Other highlights include her wonderful harmonies on the children's tune, "Toy Soldier"... (Blog Critics, Nov. 2008)
