Song lyricsI've got no strings to hold me down To make me fret, or make me frown. I had strings, but now I'm free There are no strings on me. Heigh ho, the merry oh That's the only way to be. I want the world to know Nothing ever worries me. I got no strings, so I have fun I'm not tied up to anyone. They got strings, but you can see There are no strings on me. [Dutch puppet] You have no strings, your arms is free To love me by the Zuider Zee. Ya ya ya, if you would woo I'd bust my strings for you. [French puppet] You've got no strings, comme-ci comme-ca. Your savoire-faire is ooh la la. I've got strings, but entre nous I'd cut my strings for you. [Russian puppet] Down where the Volga flows There's a Russian rendezvous. Where me and Ivan goes But I'd rather go with you, hey. [Pinocchio] There are no strings on me. |

NotesThe song is included in Pinocchio Movie Songs. In this song, Pinocchio dances with several types of puppets including a Dutch puppet, a French puppet and a few grinning cancan dancing girl puppets, a Russian puppet, and Cossacks. Honest John convinces Pinocchio that the easy way to success, very suggestively described in the song is performing as an actor: "Bright lights, music, applause, fame! Come, on to the theatre!" Pinocchio becomes Stromboli's star attraction as a marionette who can sing and dance without strings. Stromboli's wagon was a filmed model printed on cels and painted. A similar technique was used 21 years later in 101 Dalmatians (1961). When Walt Disney picked up his honorary Oscar statuettes for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), he told the Academy Award audience about Pinocchio, which was still in production, holding their attention for a full twenty-five minutes.
