Age of Empires II Joan of Arc 1 An Unlikely Messiah
is a real-time strategy video game developed by Ensemble Studios. Released in 1999 for Microsoft Windows and Macintosh. Age of Empires II The Age of Kings is set in the Middle Ages.
Joan of Arc (1412 - 1431) is considered a heroine of France for her role during the Lancastrian phase of the Hundred Years' War, and was canonized as a saint.
The game features four types of resources: food, wood, gold, and stone. Players aim to gather resources, which they use to build towns, create armies, and defeat their enemies.

This morning I awoke to vision of fire and steel. These nightmares come more often now that I have seen my beloved France eaten a way in your years of war.
I wandered through camp ignoring the new snowfall, but observing the wounds and weariness of every soldier under my command, observing the desperation in their eyes.
It was then that I first saw the girl. She told us that her name was Joan. She told us she was but a peasant, who did not know how to ride or fight. She told us that she intended to rescue France. The darkness lifted from the men's souls.
Her voice rang with conviction, and drank in her every word. Imay have lost my faith, but Joan has not lost hers, and that is enough for me.
Joan has asked our ragged band of soldiers to take her to Chinon, where the rightful ruler of France, the Dauphin, hides from his foes.
The war torn land between is infested with enemy maranders, and we will lose many maen. Death is by now an old companion, but for Joan, we will face it again.
As Joan's footsteps echoed down the marbled hall of the chateau, the fat and whispering dukes did nanght but stare.
The Dauphin himself seemed afraid as she kissed his feet. My gentle Dauphin, she demanded, why England claim what is ours? Why are you not crowned King of France as is your right?
The courtiers began to murmur. The chamberlain whispered lies into the Dauphin s ear. But the Dauphin pushed the chamberlain away and rose to meet Joan's gaze.
She stands only to the shoulder of the shortest man, but all of us must lookup to speak to her. I knownot what silent conversation passed between the Dauphin and his would-be savior, but it was obvious that his majesty was in the same thrall as we.

An expansion for The Age of Kings, The Conquerors, was released in 2000. It introduced numerous new game features, including unique technologies for each civilization, and five new civilizations. Two of these, the Aztecs and the Mayans, represent the New World and have a distinctive architectural style. Other new civilizations are the Huns, Koreans, and Spanish.
The original Age of Empires II and its 2000 expansion pack, The Conquerors, were later released as The Gold Edition. Age of Empires II is often considered one of the greatest games ever made. An updated high-definition graphics version of the game, Age of Empires II: HD Edition, was released in 2013. The HD Edition includes the original game and the expansion The Conquerors, as well as new campaigns, civilizations, and updated graphics for high-resolution displays. A remaster, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, was released in November 2019.
