Age of Empires II Saladin 5 Jihad is a real-time strategy video game developed by Ensemble Studios. Released in 1999 for Microsoft Windows and Macintosh. Age of Empires II The Age of Kings is set in the Middle Ages.

Saladin (1137 - 1193) was a Sunni Muslim Kurd who became the first sultan of both Egypt and Syria, founding the Ayyubid dynasty. He led the Muslim military campaign against the Crusader states in the Levant.

The game features four types of resources: food, wood, gold, and stone. Players aim to gather resources, which they use to build towns, create armies, and defeat their enemies.

Story

Tiberias, twenty ant a half years of bloodshed.

We are far from the ocean, so the Saracens interpret the smell of salt ant commotion of seabirds as signs from Heaven.

I sit near Saladin's tent, watching the butchery below. Saracen horse archers sweep through yet another unorganized mob of European soldiers.

The great Crusader nations have been reduced to puny city-states. Only Tiberias, Tyre, and Ascalon are still in Crusader hands. Nonetheless, these three cities are well fortified and could withstand any siege.

Objectives

Defeat any 2 of 3 Crusader cities: Tiberias, Tyre and Ascalon.

Hints

Remember: You only need to defeat 2 enemy cities. You can trade with the village of Hebron, as long as it survives.

Saladin has had many victories on the open desert, but the Crusader castles are unparalleled. If he is victorious now, the Holy Land will belong to the Saracens again. A failure could mean decades more of carnage.

Once I was amazed at the nobility of the Saracen warriors. Only a few years ago they entered battle as gentlemen, bringing with them treasure chests, wine, singing girls, and collection of doves, nightingales, and parrots. No longer.

In reaction to European hostility and fanaticism, the Saracens have steadily become more resolute, more bloodthirsty. Their love of art is replaced by a love for battle. Now, in answer to the Crusade, they have adapted their principle of jihad for warfare.

The result has been devastating to the Crusaders. The European presence in the Holy Land was finished. Or so everyone believed.

An expansion for The Age of Kings, The Conquerors, was released in 2000. It introduced numerous new game features, including unique technologies for each civilization, and five new civilizations. Two of these, the Aztecs and the Mayans, represent the New World and have a distinctive architectural style. Other new civilizations are the Huns, Koreans, and Spanish.

The original Age of Empires II and its 2000 expansion pack, The Conquerors, were later released as The Gold Edition. Age of Empires II is often considered one of the greatest games ever made. An updated high-definition graphics version of the game, Age of Empires II: HD Edition, was released in 2013. The HD Edition includes the original game and the expansion The Conquerors, as well as new campaigns, civilizations, and updated graphics for high-resolution displays. A remaster, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, was released in November 2019.
